It's Been A While.
Sorry, I've been MIA...the hubby and I have had a LOT going on! Do you ever feel like you're just going and going and you can't catch your breath? This past week I have had something going on every night...no time for laundry, cooking dinner, watching TV season premiers, and going to bed later than I should be.
Well, we've been going 'round and 'round with this house we put a bid on for the past 2 weeks! The owners are 2 brothers who received the home in an estate transaction. Needless to say, one of the brothers is a lawyer...enough said! Finally, we received a ratified contract yesterday and had the home inspection today. All went well...and our close date is tentatively October 12. I am so relieved this home search process is over! We're super stoked to be homeowners soon!
I'm sure you're wondering a little bit about the house. It's a one story brick rambler built in the 70s. It definitely needs more than a little TLC, but the hubby and I are up for the challenge. I just couldn't buy a cookie-cutter house that lacks character. But, what's great is that this was the neighborhood we really wanted to live in. It's a well-established area that I don't think will depreciate in the future.
The bathrooms are 70s colors...it's hysterical! One is avocado green and the other is harvest yellow! Also, EVERY room has wallpaper from floor to ceiling...I wasn't joking when I mentioned that it needed some work! I'm sure all these projects will be exciting and frustrating at the same time. I'll be sure to take lots of pics...before and after!
Since our lease is up on Wednesday (we're not even close to being done with packing), we've had to come up with some alternative housing and storage arrangements because we won't be able to get into the house for a few more weeks. Even though it's not ideal, we're grateful for the kind families that have offered up their homes to us. I think the important thing is an end in sight.
I'll try and update you on the process, but I apologize in advance if I don't have the opportunity to post often. Well, I will leave you with a snapshot of the work ahead of us...

Congratulations! I can't wait to see pictures!!!
As the bank lender said when my husband bought our house, "Welcome to homeownership. With it you get a lifetime of maintenance!" We also bought a fixer upper and it is great to walk around and think about all of the frustrations and rewards we got from doing it. Congrats and good luck!
AWESOME. i am so glad that you didn't have to buy a cookie cutter house! I can't stand them either. It's a great time for you guys to remodel a house without kids in the picture, plus it sounds like the bones of the house are good, it just needs your touches. Can't wait to see pics!
